Nate Campbell & Loyola Pasiewicz

The Holy Cross Ballroom Club is the social side of our organization. The Club stages frequent community events including dances, movies, parties, outings to Ryles and mixers with other ballroom organizations. If you'd like to arrange a social event or be notified of future events please contact our Social Coordinator by E-Mail at SocialCoordinator@HCBallroom.com

The club hosts and participates in a number of charitable events. We host Holy Cross Dancing with the Stars where students (pros) and faculty (stars) team up to choreograph and perform a ballroom dance of their choice. They compete for pride and prizes all in the spirit of charity. If you'd like to arrange a charity event please contact our Performance Coordinator by E-Mail at PerformanceCoordinator@HCBallroom.com

The club also performs at art fairs, school events, assisted living communities and other local businesses. If you'd like to request a ballroom performance please contact our Performance Coordinator by E-Mail at PerformanceCoordinator@HCBallroom.com

Our Competitive Team

In addition to our dance lessons, we have a competitive team that any interested member may join. We strongly encourage members to try the dance competitions. This is an excellent way to gain experience quickly and gain confidence on the dance floor.

The Holy Cross Ballroom Dance Team travels to several different local area competitions each year that are hosted by other schools. Some of the competitions that we compete in include the Brown University Dance Competition, the MIT Open Ballroom Dance Competition, the Yale Dance Competition, the Tufts Ballroom Dance Competition, the UConn Ballroom Dance Competition, and the Manhattan Amateur Classic!

What are competitions?

Eddie Hairston & Michelle Arata

Ballroom dancing has become increasingly popular among college students in recent years. Most large colleges and universities have teams or clubs devoted to ballroom dancing. Many of these larger schools also host a competition each year and invite other schools to come and compete. These competitions generally last for an entire day and held on a Saturday or Sunday.

Ballroom dance competitions are generally divided into two styles of dancing, American and International. The Holy Cross Ballroom Dance Team competes in the American style dances which is divided into two categories, Rhythm and Smooth. The International style of dancing is also divided into two categories, Latin and Standard. Both styles contain many of the same dances but differences in technique between the styles result in dances that look almost nothing alike.
